Large clutch.... but continued laying eggs while sitting on clutch Broody

My embden laid 14 eggs and started sitting on and off for ab9out two days.... on for two three hours then off for an hour then back on for 6 hours off for a half hour, etc. etc.... well she stopped leaving her nest on the 12th and went full Broody with 14 healthy looking eggs and a lovely nest. As usual we have had to pick her up and gently take her outside of coop so she will bathe, use the bathroom and eat twice a day. However, here is the part that confused me. Every day we take her off coop we count the eggs and make sure all were fine and had been turned, eetc. Well today when I checked her nest while she was bathing my nurse and I counted her eggs.... FOUR times.... suddenly she went for 14 on Sunday or MOnday to SEVENTEEN as of yesterday. I thought a couple of the eggs looked a little whiter and cleaner. Is it normal for a goose to continue to lay after she has already began sitting steadily on the nest? I just have never seen her do that before. Last clutch shehad and went broody on was 12 eggs so this is a large clutch for her,


ONE more question is it safe to use DE and mite powders on geese?

Do you have other geese that might be laying under her?

I've used food grade DE powder in my chicken houses and in the dusting baths for the chickens. My guess is that it wouldn't hurt the geese either. I imagine that if you put it on the geese, they would probably wash it off immediately in their baths. If the geese have access to kiddie swimming pools, mites are unlikely to be a problem - they take baths too much. I don't use the mite powders so I'd not be able to answer that. part of the question though.

That is a big nestful of eggs. I've another goose who is sitting on a clutch with that many - she had a long laying season, and spent a lot of time adding eggs. We were sure she was going to give up and not be broody since the season was so advanced. So, my guess is either your goose is still laying, or another goose is sneaking in there to contribute . . .
