I have a Cochin Roo I am in the process of acquiring hens for. I believe he is a buff. What color hens would be acceptable combinations with him? I am wanting the coloration to be acceptable by standards. I don't want to muddle things up. I have tried to look up charts or suggestions on this particular breed, but I only find bantam cochin breeding coloration information. Any information would be greatly appreciated. 🐔

He is a light black tailed red. His coloration is very clean and beautiful but doesn’t match US Standards. He’s actually closest in color to a New Hampshire Red, but the closest Standard color for Cochins is buff but you’re going to have trouble breeding an even coloring with that.
He appears to have e^wh, Db, and Mh. He probably was created by crossing buff Cochins with something else. How did you get him.

The closest hens to him would be buff but it still wouldn’t create Standard colored offspring. It would give you more like him but lighter.

I got him from a friend whom purchased him from a breeder who said he bought him from a hatchery.

Thank you for the info. I actually acquired him from a friend. She purchased him from a breeder who purchased him from a hatchery as a chick.
