Large Crop

I'm not sure exactly how much oil to use. When I did it, I put about a tablespoon into a small dish and fed my boy as much as I could... probably about 2 teaspoons before he totally lost patience with me. Then I massaged for about 10 minutes. He liked that part!

I second the apple cider vinegar suggestion. Braggs (health food store brand) "with the mother" is the best in my opinion.

I took Velvet to a really nice vet and she had surgery. They removed food and grit and a grass ball bigger than your fist, so double that to include the food and grit. The surgery went well but she unfortunately died that evening at home. It was a total shock to us and the vet. There was no indication that she would pass. Usually if it is going to happen it is during surgery or just after. The vet couldn't believe it when I called. If I had done nothing she would have died. The vet said that the oil and massage thing usually back fires because they aspirate into their lungs. At least now she isn't suffering. She had a long spoiled life but I will miss her. I will bury her with her sisters in the spring.

Oh, no! That is so hard. You certainly did your best for her... I am so sorry she didn't make it.

Do a search for sour crop, impacted crop and pendulous crop up in the window on the upper left side of this webpage.  There are quite a few threads about this.  My rooster was having issues for awhile, but he recovered nicely.  His crop was big and hard at first, so I switched him to soft foods - wet mash, applesauce, egg yolk-  and massaged it with a downward motion several times per day.  I put apple cider vinegar in his water.  He was better in a couple of days, but relapsed... I think he was eating really tough, fibrous grass and clogging it up again.  I did the treatment for another week and he has been fine ever since.

The crop is basically a holding tank, so it will be large if they eat and drink a lot.  Check her first thing in the morning, and if it is still large then you should begin treatment.  Good luck!  I'm sure they will both be fine, especially since they are acting normal.
What treatment could you do
