Large fowl hens + bantam rooster = ???

The entertainment value in the mental image that came to mind at that is priceless.

Oh, I didn't mean that bantam roosters were quieter, just smaller voices....higher pitched, I guess I meant to say. For some reason, my DH finds that less obnoxious than a full blown crow. I think the high pitch actually carries better and may be MORE obnoxious, but either way, I don't mind crowing. I kind of enjoy it.

My bantam roo (silkie) doesn't have a high pitched crow. It is less noisy (IMO) than a LF.

I recently went to a poultry show and couldn't stop laughing at some of the crows coming out of the bantams. They don't even sound like crows! More like loud squeaky toys

Sounds like a 13 year old boy hitting puberty!

aoxa: Thank you SO MUCH for such useful information. I've got a 7 month old problem rooster that I really don't want to have to cull but will if I can't change his behavior. Gad, based on what you've written, I've really been doing things wrong with him since he was a chick. I just didn't know. Today is a new day in our chicken compound I'll tell you that and I'm so hopeful now. I'm obviously a newbie and am so thankful for all of the great information I've gotten from this forum. I know some questions can be frustrating for longer chicken keepers to have to keep reading but for newbies......what a great thing. It's really difficult to have to sift through 1164 (example) comments on one thread in hopes of finding an answer to a question. Thank you again for taking the time to REALLY explain something AND be patient while doing it. Have an excellent chicken day!!!

I have a serama roo with my LF Brahmas. It is too funny watching him try to mate the girls, so we got him a serama girlfriend. Everybody gets along fine and is happy. Sometimes one of my young roos gets too sure of himself, but Romeo is happy to put him in his place.

This may look like an unfair battle, but the big 'un (Casey) backed down and ran. Romeo is the man!

Glad I could help! I have only had my two roosters since September 23rd this year. They totally respect my presence. It is not good to be afraid of your roosters. That much I know for sure! I had a cochin roo I rehomed because my fiance was afraid of him after being bitten. He almost fed on this. He is now part of a breeding program where the owner is not touchy feely with his chickens. I want to be able to hold my roos with ease.

I never really had issues with my silkie roo (he is over a year old). He has always respected humans. The neighbour kids can pick him up with ease. The only issues I have with him is raging hormones in the morning (trying to mate with everyone in sight). I don't let him mate until I am out of the picture. I want to hatch chicks. I have nothing against mating. He should just respect the fact that they are MY girls. Not HIS girls.

There is hope for your boys! Wear boots so you don't get fogged in the shins! Good thing silkies can't fly!

That's the truth! There were a pair of modern game cocks having a crow war at the exhibit we went to over the weekend and it was hilarious. I'm pretty sure that's what caught my DH's attention....the hilarity. Plus, the welsumer roo they had there (who I absolutely fell in love with), I think, may have spooked my DH a little. He was a BIIIIG boy with a pair of 1.5 inch spurs and a good 7 pounds of bird to power them.

You're right, that does look terribly unfair! Have any videos of the little guy in action?

Nope, no videos. I was laughing too hard to even think of switching to video! I do have a motion shot, though. Notice, Casey, the big guy has turned around. He decided the little whirlwind was too crazy to fight!

Is the bigger one the same age?

My silkie roo is boss over my BR cockerel, but that could change, right? The BR is around 4 1/2 - 5 months old. Silkie rooster is a year - a year 1/2.
