Hi guys.
I have had my three hens since June. They were given to us as housewarming gifts. Best gifts ever. Anyway, they are free rangers. Happy happy hens. Monday night, we started smelling a skunk spray smell. Tuesday morning, I let the girls out of their coop to go off and scratch and explore. I then went to work. When I get home, they are usually scratching in front of the barn and I left the 6 two month old chicks scratch with them. Then a couple of hours later, they head for their coop and I lock them up. Well, Tuesday after work they were no where to be found. ;( No eggs in the coop, nothing. I walked around the cornfield, I called them - nothing. I thought maybe the skunk smell deterred them from coming home or they wandered too far and got lost. So today, I woke up and searched again. Called them. Nothing. I went to work. Came home. Nothing. Steve and I went for a lonnggggg walk around the cornfield. On the opposite side of the cornfield we found a pile of black feathers... No blood. No body. Nothing. But a decent amount of feathers. We think at least one got snatched up. Is it possible for the other two to be around still??? I'm sorry. These were my first three hens. I am just so sad.
