last of the season hatch questions

I wanted to do a hatch this fall, my problem is that I live in Maine. Since the chicks wouldn't be big enough to go with the LF chickens, could I put them with my silkies? Would they be warm enough? Would they pick on my silkies?

If you hatch in the Fall they will need to be kept under a heat lamp til they grow out and able to manage on their own..a good insulated building where they have room of their own... or large brooderbox will be needed....chicks won't fully feather out til 8 to 10 weeks old will chill and die without proper warmth...I find its best to not put chicks and adult birds together til the chick are close to the same size and can defend themselves...older chickens can starve younger ones out...my two cents....

If Maine winters are anything like WV ones we have temps that dip below zero alot...especially with windchills...
