At night when its time to go to the roost, I have one pullet that I call Blondie who always waits until last to go in. She will even run all around the run after everyone else is in as if to check and make sure that everyone else has made it in. After she has made sure she will finally go in herself. My question is where does this put her in the pecking order and is this typical behavior?

This is a pic of her. She is a red sexlink and when I posted this picture of her everyone agrees that she is a pullet. This is my first group of chickens to raise and am really enjoying watching all of their crazy antics. Now that the nine of them are somewhere around seventeen weeks old I am looking forward to getting our first eggs, hopefully in a couple of weeks.

We have seven standard hens of various breeds. We have one hen that does the same thing. She will begin "calling" everyone when it is time to roost. She's the last into the coop. One evening, I was late in going to the coop to close the run doors. She was roosting on the floor by the door at the front of the coop and everyone else was up on the roosts. After I came to the coop, she hopped up onto the roost next to her flock mates. (She is a Golden Comet, or red sex-link, as well.....and is definitely the boss of our flock!)

-sounds like your gal is the lead hen. You should be getting eggs very, very soon!! Enjoy your flock!
