Hm, I've never heard of that. I'm not sure I'd trust it. Can you get a digital or oral thermometer and calibrate it?

You would have to calibrate it first. Get a tall glass, fill it with crushed ice almost all the way full, and then pour in some cold water, just enough to make the ice float a little bit. Then leave it for 10 minutes or so, and come back and check.
