This is my first time incubating using an old school brinsea polyhatch automatic incubator. I had 35 chicken eggs with a total of 27 hatching. Iv had 6 infertile and 2 that were not going to hatch after 2 days.

One of the chicks was a full day behind the others but according to the booklet I printed out- it was goint to hatch in 24-48hrs, was moving and I could hear tapping, so I left it be.

Early morning yesterday it started to breakthroughand by midday has a hole the size of a penny. I left it be as iv read a few forums and many say it may not be ready, over 24hrs later and no development what so ever!

I started to assist by taking bits of shell of like unzipping little by little no blood and I fully unzipped leaving membrane in tact, it wasnt that dry so I left it to open itself. After 4hrs nothing! So I picked a little more shell off leaving membrane and saw she wasnt quite ready. I awoke this morning and shes hatched! But she has something weird with her butt!

Iv searched all over different forums and im not sure! Im hoping someone can give me advice on exactly what it s as I have a million different ideas!

Thanks in advance

Looks like you yolk sac didnt absorb all the way. Do not allow her to rupture it. It will eventually dry up and fall off. Good luck with your little one

I also had one like this last hatch:

And, yup, it's unabsorbed yolk. Like was stated, you don't want the chick to rupture it. The majority of ruptured yolk sacs end in death. I took a coffee mug and put a damp paper towel in the bottom and put my little one in that. I ended up putting the cup in the brooder under the brooder light because it was too tall to put back in the bator and not be close to the heating elements. (Just make sure that you offer water periodically if you do.) Mine did successfully absorb it without rupturing it and is doing great.
I hope your makes it too.
