Late night bickering - roosting positions

Every night the chickens rearrange, bicker and peck for at least an hour trying to decide where to roost. It ends up different every night. Is this normal? There is more than enough roosting space, they just fight over who is next to whom. Several of the pullets have recently come into lay and 5 more are just about to. Is that the problem? Oh, and we culled the main rooster about 3 weeks ago. Can it take this long to determine a new pecking order?

And it is really not about pecking order...or settling it, it is just more of a "For God's sakes - move over!" Did you FART? Shove your fat A55 along!" Kind of rumbling. Very normal.
