Ok 9 eggs are under Broody Mama Buff Orpington,
they were to start hatching tomorrow but what do I know:
I came home to find a hatched Lavender Orpington chick and one EE almost hatched. I took the LO chick out to its temporary brooder, (I am doing it the Minnie Rose Lovegreen way of taking them as they hatch so that Mama does not abandon the other eggs, which will hatch over 6 or 7 days).
Ok so now I have the one chick, should I remove the egg that is almost hatched? About half the shell is off, membrane is there, chick under that, not sure how long it will take but I feel badly for the one lonely chick in the brooder box who is chirping loudly.
Or will it be ok til morning and I just keep removing the hatched chicks? Now that the one egg is surely to hatch soon, can't I just put it in with the hatched chick or is that rushing things?
eeek!
edited to add that I will have to go to bed at some point, hence my concern about the single chick being traumatized all by its lonesome all night. If I add the hatching egg to the brooder...?
also it is a warm warm humid night and I wonder if need to add heat?
I have a piece of sweater over the brooder as Minnie Rose says it makes it nice and dark and cosy like being under Mom's wings.
