Latest reason to hate mice!!!

we thought we had all the mice gone... and their entry routes sealed up but o noooooo we were sooo wrong... but they are out smarting us now

we had the house re insulated last week (dec 22) they came into the house and drilled thumb sized holes in my walls and them pump cellulose insulation in all of the exterior walls.
Can you guess what I have been hearing ever since?... thats right... chew chew chew... I said to DH oo look we just gave them sever hundred pounds of nesting material.

I have several glue traps with no bodies in them, I have a humane trap thats still empty, I have the snap traps still with peanut butter on it,

and I am even trying a home made trap take a 5gal pail and make ramps to the rim so they can get into the bucket, fill the bucket 1/2 way with water, take a tinfoil tart container and float the container on the water put a lump of peanut butter in the tinfoil tart container. sprinkle sunflower seeds on top of the water.... when they try and get it... sploosh they drown.... but still nothing but chew chew chew

OMG that's just terrible!!

Can you set out mouse bait, the kind that kills them with one feeding?

Exterminators use that the most...

I HATE RODENTS!

I had the same concerns, when we lived in the city the appartment building was infested with mice and the exterminator used "black boxes" where the bait was, they were placed where the mice travel (near pipes under sinks, behind the stove, the washing machine, the couch, etc) and they are pet-safe.

He said the mice eat, then go back to their nests and die a few hours later, there is no danger to pets.

All I know is that there were NO more mice after he placed the bait (all sticky traps and wood traps remained empty).

but what happens mf my cat gets them before they make it back to the nest?... I cant have my DD's cat bleeding out on her bed...or the stink of a decaying mouse between the walls

I too was concerned for the stink but they go outside to die apparently, it's not immediate... they die of asphyxiation or something.

Might be worth it to put the pets in someone else's home for a few days until the traps are set and eaten... it's really fast!

Sometimes you have to use the big guns

We keep little boxes of Decon around and they take care of our mouse problem. A rat terrier will do a good job on both mice and rats. At the dairy where I used to milk we were overrun with rats for a while. My boss got something called Pitch Paks, because you just pitched the little packets around where the rats would find them. In a very short period of time there were no more rats. Not a one.

I can so relate to your frustration! We realized that we had mice in our garage, probably because I had left a bag of bird seed opened in it, oops. As soon as we removed their food source from the garage they started coming in the house.

I think we have killed about 6, SO FAR, and this morning I noticed that one had climbed all the shelves in our pantry, pooping everywhere, and chewed into a bag of crackers... GROSS!

Time to put some poison out!

Had to update on the last sentence of my post above.

Well, we did put poison out and in no time there were no more mice. Now, however, I'm having to deal with the STENCH of a mouse that has died somewhere in or under our house. It smells like it is coming out of the duct system, and when the heat turns on, OMG!

On a funny little side note, my DH put an extra box of poison in the closet in our laundry room. Well, a mouse committed suicide by chewing through that box and helping himself to the poison.

I darn well better not have mice, we have four indoor/outdoor cats and I have never seen one, except for the dead ones they bring me......about three every morning...
