I had bought 6 random chicks from TSC, 'cause I couldn't find any BO's. So, then hubby comes home (4 wks later) and says "there are bo's at the feed supply" - different place). So, I (of course) went and bought two, set them up in a brooder and they seem totally lethargic compared to when our others were their age. They just lay around. Is it different when there's only TWO? Is there more of a fear factor for them when not in larger numbers?

They are eating and drinking a bit, but not a lot. The temp is fine. They are little, I'm not sure how old, still fuzz balls, but w/ a few feathers on the wings (5-7 days?)??

Our Buff Orpington chicks are 1 1/2 wks old...they are so quiet...only time they make a noise is when I try to catch them to check for pasty butt or when I put the 11 new chicks in their brooder. Perhaps they are just a very quiet breed. My 5 seem to stick together...had to take the 11 chicks out and put them in their own brooder...think the BO chicks would have had a heart attack since the new chicks were trying to get under them even though they were nearly the same size.

Good luck with your BO chicks!

They are TOTALLY mellow. I hope they're okay, they eat enough, I'm not sure about drinking. I dipped their beaks and when that didn't work, I sloshed the water in front of them (so they could see it move), and they finally drank, so know they know where it is and how to drink.

Hopefully I'm just being paranoid.
