Is this color going to look the same? I am thinking about ordering some self blue d'uccles from cackle just so I can see the color. I get confused on what is considered lavendar in silkies and wondering if it looks like what these self blue d'uccles will. Is it even worth it to order from the d'uccles from cackle or will I just be more confused. I can't tell the difference between gray and lavendar in silkies.

Self blue and lavender is the same coloring. Gray in silkies is quite a bit darker. It's kind of far away, but here's my son showing his lavender silkie in 4H...it's the only pic I have of her...

Cute son! (Silkie, too, lol).

Lavender and self-blue are exactly the same thing in the US. In other countries, self blue is not lavender, but rather is a uni-coloured, non-laced andalusian blue.

Grey is entirely different in that it is a patterned variety. Each and every feather on a female should be penciled; on a male different parts of the body are different colours. Genetically grey is identical to partridge, except for the silver gene. Partridge are gold; greys are silver. This is my grey hen:

Thanks! She's PQ, but such a doll that I let all of my less confident or newbie 4Hers practice with her, she tolerates ANYTHING!!!

And that is by far the nicest looking grey silkie I've ever seen! I've never seen a grey I've drooled over before!!! (partial to blues)

Thanks! She is nice hen. But you should have seen her a couple of months ago when she very BADLY needed to molt. She looked like a very poor quality, poorly coloured partridge. Thanks goodness she has nice shiney new GREY feathers without any sunburn/bronzing. I do like that photo with Pete lurking in the background.
