Lavender Ameraucana Breeders .... UNITE

Based on comb, hackles, saddle and tail- I'd say roo ... sorry about your losses it can be VERY frustrating

Thank you...it was frustrating to be helpless to do anything.

I am not set up for breeding. He is the only Ameraucana I have.

If anyone is breeding Lavs in Central Florida and you think my guys genetics look okay, I would give him away so he could have a happy productive rooster life. He is really mellow and calm, so I am not in any rush to get rid of him, and I have yet to hear a crow... But I am not zoned for roosters, so if the crowing starts and he loves the sound of his voice, I will need to rehome quickly...if anyone just wants to keep an eye on his development, let me know...I can a post a weekly picture, or even do a movie for you...
I don't have his lineage. I know he came from a lady in Plant City, and I think his parents came from north Florida somewhere.

Definitely a cockerel!
Edited to add: He has nice coloring and wing set, his tail may be a bit high, but his neck seems to be really long and thin. His whole front end seems quite wimpy to me. But if he is nice - which my males tend to be - and quiet (they really aren't good at that, especially this time of year!) he may fill out a bit by the time he is a year old and look a bit more proportioned.

He was stretching his neck for a good gander because the iPad was freaking him out, but he is at that awkward growth stage, too. His parents (both Laveders) were very nice looking, though I didn't do a close up inspection, and I don't know much about the breed standards. Heck, even if I did know more, I would not be able to pass judgement beyond "pretty bird!"

He is my favorite, personality wise, and I really do love the lavender color. He looks like a thunderstorm cloud to me.

I really wanted those beautiful blue eggs, though...sigh...

Thank you for your thoughts!

The sire looks pretty nice to me. Kind of a big comb and poor muff/beard feathering (maybe only has single gene for beard/muff) - but that seems to be an ongoing issue with this color! I try to compare to pictures or images of birds that have either won at shows, or if you can find drawings of the standard. I like this image, previously from the ABC club, of the conformation I am looking for in my own male birds.

That is so awesome and a very good idea! Thank you. I have wondered about the largish combs. It seems getting all the traits right without introducing problems is very difficult. As I've read through this thread I have been amazed by the dedication ya'll have :)

This is only my second year with the Lavs, and my second generation (will be hatching this spring). It has been a learning process! I do not think any bird is ever perfect. They can be near-perfect, but I'm sure there is always something to work on

New Dickey's incubator is loaded, and my shippping boxes and NPIP certification finally arrived! Have chicks and young birds available. Many more hatching on the 30th March, and the 18th of April. PM me for details / reservations /prices. All have had their Marek's vaccine. Youngest I am comfortable with sending is two weeks old. I am in California 95638 if you want to look up shipping prices to your zip code. They must go Express.

Just to let you know you called it:
My cockeral started crowing this morning! He kept it up until I opened his door. Now he is just using his regular voice.
