Lavender Ameraucana Breeders .... UNITE

I just had a youngster ask me if Lavender Ameraucana can be shown by 4H members. I have no idea about 4H rules. I think he is here in Florida. Anybody know the answer?

Considering they're not yet accepted by the APA, might only be able to show in the AOV category... but is best for them to contact their local 4H district as they can have different rules for each area...

Im ignorant of Genetics/Breeding for the most part.

Here to learn and hatch some breathtaking Am's.

I love Blue Eggs for some odd reason Im drawn to em like a bug zapper.

I don't know about 4-H, but at all APA/ABA sanctioned meets you enter birds by breed and variety (AOV is not a variety name, so don't put it on an entry form). Lavender Ameraucanas are entered as such...lavender Ameraucana or Ameraucana lavender, depending on whether breed or variety name is asked for first on the form.

So I have an anomaly I am hoping someone might be able to shed some light on... I got a Lav cock from @DMRippy that she had got from @Shaffer and he has been known to throw recessive whites when bred to another carrying it as well... all good, I got him with full disclosure and am happy with him... I've set him up with 2 of my own Lav hens and a black split I hatched from @jerryse eggs... love her, she is gorgeous...

I have absolutely no complaints about the birds in any way, just curious about what I just hatched, lol... am hoping maybe someone has seen this and knows what it is... I know crossing lines can also make odd things pop up, so maybe it's just that, I dunno...

Anyways, the Lav hens chicks all hatched out typical Lavender and beautiful... from the split hen I hatched some gorgeous chicks, Lavenders, a couple black splits, a single recessive white, and an anomaly...

And now this... I thought it looked blue at first, but it's not... it has a very smoky look to it and I am completely baffled... I have no issues with what I am hatching, just want to know what I am hatching, lol...

I'd really like some input if anyone has any, please???

Check out my post on the previous page it may be the same thing I have in my lavender flock as well :)

I would definitely tag that chick because my guess is it will turn completely black and will get lost in your black splits.

Oh, I'm tagging it and monitoring it for sure... right now it's in with just a few Lavs and some Silkies... I've been single mating hatching so I don't mix up offspring from the one hen with the others as well, lol...

I looked at that... and just went and looked at the chick again... it *looks* like the feathers are coming in Lav...

Edited to add pic, can't upload from app... don't know if you can see it well or not...

What I can tell you is the few that stayed that smokey color were all boys (sex link maybe or just coincidence?) and they look like a combination of black and lavender together which gives them this silvery black look. They are definitely carrying lavender because mated with a lavender hen they give me lavenders.

It is very strange and hard to figure out. Most of them turned completely black as they grew though.

BYC doesn't like us to direct you to another forum where I believe you would find at least part of your answer, so I'll give my 2 cents. I believe it is recessive white with modifiers and will mature mostly white with perhaps some gray especially on it's head.

Typical day-old recessive white looks like this...

These are some I had that look very much like what you have...
