Lavender Ameraucana Breeders .... UNITE

Pics
Did you trim your birds even though they are ameraucanas. Some of the top breeders trim them just to make sure the fertility is close to 100%. I am sure someone will give you some other pointers on feeding them some extra quality feed to help you also plus worming and treating for coccidious, plus extra vitamins and electrolytes in the water. I've used Rooster Booster on a very old male once that had poor fertility and it worked for me.

I started setting Lav X Lave eggs about five months ago. I was having really bad hatching rates, only one or two chicks per setting of 18ish eggs at a time

. This last time i set 18 and had 11 hatch

. Like a lot of the others I was seeing development clear into the last couple of days and then they just would'nt hatch

. The only change I made with this hatch was using the dry hatch method and using distilled water in the hatcher at lock down. I was setting other eggs at the same time and was getting a pretty good hatch on all the other breeds but not the Lavs. I will try another dry hatch in a month or two and see if I can repeat the hatch rate.

I had the same problem. They would develop to day 18-19 and would never hatch. I have NO IDEA what that problem was. All of the sudden they started to hatch just like the rest of my eggs. I am going to chalk that up to pullet eggs.....

I didn't change anything except the pullets got older. I did change feed somewhere around that time. They were on Soy based feed and now everyone is on Pork based feed.

please explain what you mean by "trim"

Cut or pluck the feathers around the vent of the roo and hen. The hen needs trimming above and below and the roo below.... I think that is right. I had to do that on my Wyandotts and probably will have to on the Orps, I have never needed to do that on the Ams..... yet.

Hi I think I have some of your birds indirectly. I got ALL my lavs from Cindy at CrystalCreek :D. At least I am pretty sure that's what she told me....

chick-among-us,
Good luck with them. My one son lives in Texas and some day he will have some chickens also when he finds a place out in the country. Of course you know where they will be coming from.

Absolutely! I may be partial but my lavs, are drool worthy...and my babies. Love their temperaments ...I shall await your son bringing birds close by,will he live near Dayton or Cleveland area? Tell him he has one customer! Lol eggs preferably maybe birds or chicks heck nevermind whatever is good!,:D

He lives in Austin right now. There was a show Jan 5th at College Station. I had attended Texas A&M several times for various classes there and had a tour of their poultry operations.

Hello all,
So glad I found this Thread. I have so much learning to do.
Let me introduce myself, I am Wendy in Derry PA, Long story short after getting EE instead of Ameraucanas. I got a trio of Black from John Blehm lines. I let my hens sit on 18 of their eggs this summer and they hatched out 13. Low and behold I did not expect to get 3 Lav. I was shocked. after the neighbors dog took out a few on several occasions I am down to 7 left and only one of the Lav. She is beautiful and I want to learn more.
I have Subscribed and will post some pics soon.
Wendy
