Lavender Ameraucana Breeders .... UNITE

The friend where I got the eggs from has hatched a few so far this season, and she has yet to see one with feathered legs!
yea. I think its super rare i was told that a year or two ago it can happen. I imagine as the years pass its even more rare. At the start of the lav ams it happend more often.

Hmmm interesting! I have the one marked so I will know if he loses the feathering that he did have it as a chick.

My current rooster. He needs to be bigger!! I have some blacks in the incubator from Dak - hoping to add both size and better, bluer egg color to my Lavs. I really want these birds to be better dual-purpose. Last fall I had some extra cockerels that we removed the breast meat from. They had surprisingly "large" (larger than I expected) breast meat for their scrawny size @ about 23 weeks.

How blue are the eggs you're getting? Am I right to expect robin's egg blue when my LA starts laying?

Oh good. Just got my first egg - greenish blue. Wasn't sure if I should be pleased or worried for my hen's brothers who went to a friend's breeding program.

I would not expect robin's blue. I have blacks, mottleds and lavs in my incubator and the lavs have the greenest tint to them.

My LF Lavender Ameraucana from Paul Smith lays a blue egg with no green tint to it. She laid a LOT of eggs through the winter--usually five eggs a week--and most of the color has been depleted. She has a very, very pale blue egg now with no green.
