Lavender Ameraucana Chicks

My chicks are almost 6 weeks old and a couple have "ratty" feathers. It has been a long time since I had chicks. I hope this is not the dreaded "feather shredding" I have heard about. Is that likely at this age? Or just normal chick development?

Lavender color gene does have a pretty high chance for the feather shredding gene which may be happening in your chicks. Their baby feathers will look ugly for a while but then as adults they look normal.
