Hi! I was wondering if anyone had leads on lavender araucana breeders in the US. I found one in PA and a couple in the UK, but nothing for sure or reliable for this season. I have a friend who is a vet tech at a zoo, who has done great things for me on my farm and usually all free of charge. This spring he ventured out to add to his backyard home flock and was set on lavender araucana. His hatch from a small number of eggs produced just one chick who seemed to be a genetic outliner. I'd like to be able to thank him for all the work he's done for me and my brother's farms over the years and bring some hens from any breeders in the area. I'm in Western PA.

Any leads would be very helpful!

Lavender Araucanas are very rare. Hink-jc Mountain Poultry is the only breeder I know of. I believe they are the only ones that have worked on this project. You may find someone else, but I am sure that they got their birds from them. Araucanas are difficult to hatch so if you could pick up chicks that would be ideal.

Good luck. Araucanas are wonderful birds!

You do not need to be a rocket scientist to make a lavender araucana. How do you think they were made? You just take a cull lavender ameraucana that has no muffs and beard and breed it to a black araucana. Simple as 1,2,3.

You will need some knowledge of genetics but the "chicken calculator" will help you thru the precise color genetics. Rumpless will come just keep breeding to rumpless birds, same with tufts. Just breed the lav Ameraucana to a black tufted rumpless and you should have a very good start from there.

I'm in South Central PA and I have a lavender Aruacana rooster. I don't have any hens yet. I think the woman I got him from may have a few hens. I'll see if she's successfully breeding them yet and getting any offspring!

Poularde- that is who I found here in America but they don't have chicks available for sale due to popularity of demand for adult birds.

Staffer- this is something I'd like to find and gift to him for a thanks...I'm chicken breeding market...but I'm sure you're right that it's plenty easy.

Diannes - yes please let me know!

Ashburnham- thank you! Plus it is good to find another breeder...even so.far away. Most I've found are in the UK... :-\
