lavender or blue? americanas

Those are blues. Blues can have stray black feathers. It isn't really wanted, but they can display them in some lines.

Splash would be just as obviously different as Lavender, as they're a solid white with random black and/or blue feathers scattered throughout the body.

A Splash Araucana for note:

Yep, I agree with Illia, those are both blues. Blue can and will vary greatly in shades and some blues can actually appear almost black. The reason for the stray "black" feather on the body of the blue bird is because blue is a "leaky" gene. The blue gene acts as a "diluter" gene, 1 copy of the blue gene will dilute what is normally black on a bird to blue, 2 copies of the blue gene will dilute blue to splash.

Love your BLReds!!!!!!

thanks all, now I get it. I didn't know if amercanas had splash like the silkie splash which appears with the blue backround. so what I have gathered, the darker may have something darker under it that is leaking through vs my other bird that might have a lighter base. not that it really matters, these are only for eggs as I have no americana roo. I do sell hatching eggs, my roosters are still on the young side. I replace them each fall with spring roos. In another month, I may have eggs for sale. at this point, they would only be test eggs. just pm me if you are interested in some hatching eggs.
(I have white wyandottes too)
