Hi, I am new to this chicken thing, loving every minute so far! I have a question....Is there a difference between an Lavender and a Blue orp? If so, how do you tell? I have one that the breeder told me was a blue orp, but I have seen the pics on here of lavenders and they look an awful lot alike.

Here's a pic of my lavender orpington roo....hatched from Bargain's eggs. He's 3 months old.

He's beautiful! My Lily (I'm hoping:) ) is very pretty, she is a light dove gray and when her feathers were coming in the pins were a lovely shade of blue.

Oh my goodness...those hens are lovely! When do they get their adult feathers? Mine looks like she may be getting alittle darker at the neck

There's a distinct difference - they are not the same.

Blue is darker than Lavender, particularly on the head. They are also sometimes laced (dark edges to each feather) while lavenders are not.
Blue birds also have a blue tinge, while lavender birds have a more purple tinge.

Thank You! She is only 7 weeks old and still a very light dove gray, so I can't wait to see her adult color!
