Hi,

I am really hoping to be able to tell if either or both of these are cockerels before they start to crow.

I really thought I had one of each, but now the comb and waddle seems too big and pink for the age. These two are 4 weeks today.
Holly is the first one, Charlotte is in the back.

Holly looks like what everyone says is a cockerel from the tail and her stance. Charlotte looks like a pullet from the back. Her tail fathers came in faster. Their wing feathers came in different too.

Holly is less chesty then Charlotte, but oh that comb and waddle? So, I know it is early and Lavenders can be hard to sex, but these two have always been so different right from hatch day, they have the same parents. Thoughts? Thanks for any ideas given. hope everyone has a great night.

I'm thinking that their still to young to say for sure on gender. Yes I do see some wattles slowly growing in but I would wait and post in about another week or two. By then you should know what you have! Very pretty chicks you have there! Here is a pair of my Lavender Orps,

Pretty birds. I've got no experience to guess on a gender, but just wanted to comment on their cuteness. :) The variety of chickens out there is amazing ---I'm getting the buff Orps to start, but until now I hadn't seen the lavenders. (I am totally loving this wild new world of chickenry that I've entered into!).

I'm leaning towards cockerel on both of them, but it is still too young to tell gender for sure. You could just have a fast maturing pullet.

Thank you everyone for replying, it means a lot to me. It's hard sometimes when you post and no one responds. I had listed a chick that my son got from his teacher asking on a couple of different threads what he might be and I still don't know.

No one even responded on the breed thread that I think he might be.

One thing we do know is it's a Bantam cockerel.

I keep trying to search out all the pictures here on this entire web site and read all I can to tell about ways to try and sex these Orpingtons, but unfortunately, those who did post in the past never gave any final updates, which is so frustrating. I plan to keep posting weekly until we know for sure, even if I have to wait till they crow or lay an egg, and hopefully it might help others. The strange thing is how totally different everything about these two has been, it will be strange if they both turn out to be the same sex. But then again, maybe not, look how different kids can be even with the same parents.

Thanks again, and I do hope all that say cockerel are wrong.

Thanks Oh, the buffs are so beautiful, I do have to say I am loving ALL the Orpingtons. I am new to all this too, but one thing I can tell you, once you enter you can never leave.

Oh, and you may of heard about chicken math, but do you know about chicken logistics, that's even worst than the math, or must have more-hens syndrome.

Now, they are one great looking pair!

I'll take fast maturing pullet, as we only have one hen, that's why I am feeding them miracle grow.

I would vote ROO on both, but they are still so young...good luck!

Thanks, I need more then luck, as the three my son got from his teacher are all cockerels. Hey how about I give you three cockerels that would be some good luck for me.
