Better cull them before they take over your brain. Thank goodness I only have the ones from the Milky Way.... hey wait that means mine are aliens too!!!
Jeremy, Yes, I have learned from all this. Not all of what I learned has anything to do with chickens though
Sometimes when a person is very knowledgeable about a subject they don't realize with someone else might not know. Yes, I have learned some genetics from this thread, as well as prevailing opinions when it comes to some of it. Opinions are valuable too when they come from people that breed quality birds. Even if they don't agree, it's interesting to hear the reasoning behind them.
Quote:
You will get all Black offspring but they will be split to Lavender so if bred together you will get %25 lavender offspring, and if bred to lavenders you will get %50 Lavender offspring.

to make sure i got this correct.
black rooster over the lavendar hens will produce all black offspring...
then when i breed the offspring to lavendar rosster i will get 50% black chicks and 50% lavendar chicks??
Black X Lavender = 100% visually Black chicks split to (recessivly carrying) the Lavender gene
If you breed the split offspring together you will get...
Black (split Lav) X Black (split Lav) = 50% Black chicks split to Lavender, 25% Lavender chicks and 25% Black chicks
Hope this helps.
ETA:
Lavender X Black (split Lav) = 50% Black chicks split to Lavender, 50% Lavender chicks
I would recommend crossing your Black split birds together for further improvement rather than putting them back under their Lav father, unless the Lavender rooster you have has very good qualities. Think about it this way- every time you breed back to Black you're improving the future Lavender offspring.
