Lavender Orpington project ....

Wondering if "splash" lavender orps are of much value in comparison with straight lavender orpingtons?

There is no such thing as a splash lavender. Lavender (or in other breeds, same coloring is called "self blue") is a different gene than that causing splash. Splash is a result of having two blue genes. (haha I always think "blue jeans") One blue gene gets you a blue, and then of course none get you a black.

As for honking, some do that when they are hot. And that particular bird always will. But they don't all do that.

As for worming, the most accurate (and least helpful) answer is "it depends." But twice a year is a decent rule of thumb.

one of my lavender's has some red feathers coming in under the wings. I pulled the feathers back thinking it was some polk berry juice but sure enough there are more coming in. Anyone have this before? He is such a pretty bird and is a beast in size compared to the others.

Are you sure that the bird is lavender? Do you have any more pictures?

Yeah, I agree. That isn't a lavender, what bloodlines does it have? did it come from your own flock or did you buy it as an egg/chick? how old is this bird? I'd love to see more pictures. looks like it has really pretty coloring

Ill get a better pic of him today or tomorrow. I bought a bunch of lavenders and from a guy and his roo was a blue/lavender split? He tossed in a couple blues with the bunch because I told him I wished I had a blue roo. He is approx 5.5month old. Just started crowing but sounds more like an owl right now.

From what I understand about the lavender genes it doesn't split to blue...Blue just makes a mess of lavender. lavender splits to black.
