Lavender Orpington project ....

More eggs hatched. I have two of the blacks, one with a dark face and one with a much lighter face. Plus I have four lavenders. One egg is still in the incubator didn't hatch. I am leaving it for now to see if it still might.

Great hatch for me. Eight eggs shipped and 6 chicks. All eggs started to develop. One egg was a quitter after week one and never made lockdown. I had one chick I had to help out of the egg as it was stuck and couldn't zip around. The others popped right out by themselves.

Manolo our Lavender Orpington cockerel from Harmony Hill Farms of Georgia. He is named after Manolo Blahnik because our friends always joke about our fancy chickens so we thought he should have a fancy name.

OK, the spot on the yellow chicks head is black and it is starting to get black in it's feathers. Does anyone know what it's going to be?

If the chick is mostly yellow with a black spot on the head, then yes I would say it's a mottled chick. It will feather in black with white tips here and there through out. I do not have any to reference pics for you but I do know that there are a few others here that do have them and maybe someone will share a pic or two for you. I do love the mottles though and wish I was lucky enough to have some. Do you have pictures of your chicks yet, would love to see them!

Funny how a yellow chick can end up black. The split hens are from Tony so I know they are from hinkjc line. The roo is from backyardfarm which I'm pretty sure they originated from hinkjc also. I havn't taken any pics yet since I can't seem to figure out how to post photos. I've tried with others with no success. I read somewhere about useing the imgtag but thats all it said. No instructions on how to use it. Clicked on it and it appeared on my post but nothing else happened. Tried to right click and other things and also tried to cut and paste from my picture program. Still nothing.

To Post Pictures you have to upload them to you user name account. Once uploaded you get into my uploads. When viewing the picture their are two links The bottom one that says IMG. Click in that box and Copy it using a right click or however you copy things on your computer. I have windows 7 and mine I click on Page and copy that way. Once you copy that link you post a reply to the forum and paste your info. Post a reply and see if that img is now a picture in the forum.
Good Luck!!
Beth
