Very cool. I am gonna throw this one in a show or tow this year to see what happens.

He'll be over all the lav females from this year's hatchings.

Also thinking I'll take this one...he's a bit younger but showing some promise. I've never shown before.

I've also have two black females and a young blue pullet I'm debating on. I'm mostly interested in seeing what "judges" think of them in comparison to the standard. I KNOW what I think!

I have also just taken both of his girls to my lav roo for some major improvement. I will also take a lav hen to my black rooster later this spring.

i got to go with the first bird too scbatz33 , hes got much better balance and continuity then the 2nd. It's possible the 2nd will fill in more, but right now his tails high, hes a bit wedge in shape and almost has a langshan (sp sorry) shape to him... I will say this though great condition! Also nice feathering, i've seen a fair amount of puffball blacks lately, nice to see a pair with feathering like that! nice job!

This is my first with Lavender orpingtons. Are these guys more hyper than the other colors. I've got white, black , buff, blue, and now these but these lavenders seem very hyper and not friendly.

What gives?

You have to remember these are a project bird not a standard for Orps. Your working with a color and depends on the generation that you have yours to. I have no problems with my hens, they are calm sweet girls but the roosters can get hyper and aggressive. It will take generations of breeding back to good Black Orpingtons to improve stock.
