any lavender bird can be crossed on another breed to introduce the gene. The closer the lavender bird is in type to the Orpington, the easier it is to get back to desired type. There are enough people working on Lavender Orpingtons now that it would be much better/faster/cheaper just to buy the Lavender Orp over black or over split to lavenders, even though they seem to be going high, it is WAY cheaper than breeding and raising hudnreds of birds just to try to breed back to type after a drastic outcross.
