"project" usually means the color is fairly new and they have not A.) got it accepted and B.) they haven't got it profected. Lavender Orps and Lavender Ameraucanas are examples of Project Lavenders. Neither have been accepted. Another Project Lavender is Bantam Cochin. But some expamples of non Project Lavenders (Self Blue) are d'uccles. Another Lav type project would be the Porcelain silkies. If I wanted to make Lavender Wheaten Ameraucanas they would be considered "projects" until accepted by the APA
and SUPER RARE project LF lav araucana

A project is a temporary endeavor, having a defined beginning and end at some point, undertaken to meet unique goals and objectives, usually to bring about beneficial change.
i disagree with them having to be accepted with the apa or aba to be in a breed,,
we don't show here and most chicken folks don't either.
what we are building/working towards is a bird that meets standard body conformation for orpingtons. other then the color its self ,which still could be shown in a all other category if one so desired.
we certainly didn't start our projects to benefit the apa or aba, we started them because we love the color regardless of what the apa thinks about them. ultimately lav orpington are here to stay and may or may not have there place in the apa, but that wont stop folks from having orps or araucana or etc in that color or any other color being worked on in a specific breed..
