Most marans don't have feathered legs--depends on whether they are bred to the French or British standard. If I remember correctly, the ABA standard calls for clean legs--I filed that newsletter is a really SAFE place--meaning I might find it in about 5 years.
Could be both blue and self blue, which should give a light shade of blue, but still have the darker hackles: Bl/bl+ lav/lav
I've seen (for that matter have one) birds who are barred on hackles and saddle, but not elsewhere--not sure what causes that.
So I guess only time will tell. Does anyone know what color those Marans eyes are, or what color orpington's eye are? That would give us a big clue as to what it could be between the two breeds.
