I've had chickens for a little while now and I was just wondering if there were any certain laws I needed to follow by when keeping poultry in Tift County Georgia? I understand the basic common sense ones, but would I need paper work or something of the sort for my chikcens?

Here is the Animal Control ordinance for Tift County:

http://www.tiftcounty.org/documents/departments/0453002001258995306.pdf

This part under "Prohibited Animals" may apply to you:

"The following subparagraphs 10 through 16 shall apply to all incorporated cities and
unincorporated subdivisions (residential areas with six (6) or more lots), and residences on
three (3) acres or less in the County:

(10) Any livestock (see definition of livestock which includes poultry) of any
type, breed or number upon any premises with the exemption of The
Georgia Agrirama."

So if you're within city limits, or in a subdivision with 6 or more lots, or on less than 3 acres, you might not be permitted to have them. You could call the county zoning department and have them check (229-386-7965) but since you've had them for a while with what I'm assuming are no complaints, you might also "leave well enough alone".

Here's the county website with all the relevant contact numbers:
