Law of Probability - Hen or Rooster

if your peanut butter AND jelly sandwich is landing jelly side down you are doing something wrong. The peanut butter and jelly go on the INSIDE of the sandwich...

Hilarious!!
Ok, but I most often DROP the sandwich while applying the PB & J, in the 'open face' position, at which times dropping results in jelly on my toes 87% of the time.

50/50 odds are truer for higher total numbers. lets say you were hatching 100 or more.

With 12 eggs (assuming they all hatch) you will very likely get 5/7 6/6 or 4/8 split either sex.

The odds of getting 12 males or 12 females are 2x2x2x2x2x2 =

1:64

Much better chance than hitting the Lotto LOL

ummmm . i think its a lot less than that...
more like .5^12 or .0002 or 1 in 5000 i think....

In the interest of addressing the rooster percentage........
anyone want to volunteer to post their latest hatch results?

I have 16 eggs in the incubator right now due to hatch tomorrow.
If we can get 100 eggs/chicks as a representative sample we can attach some numbers to our speculation.

Anyone else have eggs hatching this week and want to post back their results?

Chances? 50-50 of you dont care what they are. If you are looking for meat then <25 % will come out Roos and if you really want eggs, you will get <25% hens. Least it seems like it!

I had a couple recent hatches, where I am starting to identify the sex.

3 bantam chicks = 2 cockerels / 1 pullet
12 lav chicks = 10 cockerels / 2 pullets
11 buff chicks = 2 cockerels / 9 pullets
4 araucana chicks = 1 cockerels / 3 pullets

The others are still too little to figure out.

Peaceful - thanks for the information. I'll have to turn the temperature down on my incubator. My first hatch consisted of 10 roosters and 4 hens, and my second had 7 roosters and 2 hens. I'll turn the temp down a little and try again.
