I got 2 turkens today that are about 5-6 weeks old and I only have layer feed. The protein is the same as the grower feed. The only major difference I remember is that the layer feed is not medicated. Anyone think that it will be a problem to feed them the layer?

THe problem is the calcium. There's too much in the Layer. It can harm kidneys in growing birds.

It all depends on the brand you're feeding. I feed Blue Seal Home Fresh and they have a product called grower-cal. This is for the 8-20 week old span(or until they lay). You can check out their site at:

I feed Blue Seal to all my animals and love it! I feel the quality is consistent and affordable.

Correct that the calcium is the difference, and too much calcium is dangerous to the chicks.

However, I feel you can safely feed them layer for a day or two, til you can get to the feed store. You could also make them a meal once or twice a day of whatever you have, maybe cooked oatmeal, a scrambled egg, plain yogurt, etc., then offer the layer in between.
