I put the feeder on the patio to refill it and left it there for the girls to eat out of. I didn't close up the coop so the feeder remained on the the patio, so our dogs managed to eat all of the feed. This morning one of them threw up several times then had bad diarrhea this afternoon. She had an upset stomach. Yeah, layer feed in large quantities, not so good for dogs.

That experience might have taught 'em to steer clear of the chicken feed — if they're fast learners! My dog started munching on some just today, but I caught her before she ate a second mouthful of layer pellets. It could be tasty, but I'm not yet tempted to find out for myself. Ha.

I think so too because both dogs took their sweet time eating their food and the one who got the brunt of stomach issues totally ignored chicken poop. 10 minutes after eating she threw her food back up. After all that she started to feel better because she tried at the chicken poops. Hopefully they learned their lesson. Oh I forgot to mention the coop was closed up, it just wasn't me so that's why the feeder was left out.

Chicken feed is most often, all vegetarian, which isn't good for dogs. Dog food, ideally, should have meat as the top 3 ingredients.
Layer feed is likely too high in calcium too.
That's what I thought too. Layer feed contains the nutrients necessary for a laying hen, not a dog. The feed is Layena Omega Plus. on the bag it says not need for grit or oyster shell(I assume it's included). The dogs feel better now.

Hahahaha. 1 of my hen pens doesn't have a top on it and the cats get in there and eat their layer feed. I figure what the heck, layer is cheaper than cat food, just worried that my cats might start clucking.

My EE runs over when it's time to feed the dogs and eats out of the bowls haha.

Seems like everyone wants to eat someone else's food around here.

The chickens want the dog and cat food. and the hay

The horses want the chicken food.

The dogs want the cat food and the chicken food.

The cats want the chicken food.

Everyone wants MY food.

And don't get me started on who eats who's poop

. Sure seems like I should be able to get a closed system going here somehow, with all the poop eating that goes on.

Haha it's ridiculous. I think we can throw vomit into that equation too.
