Laying age

Of my 2 Jersey Giants hens 1 started at 22 weeks. We watched her go in the box(always backwards~ butt end hanging out) and out comes an egg. That was back in Nov!!! The other one nothing yet!!! Same size, same age. My EE's nothing yet!! Another lady bought the same EE's as I did from the same hatchery and hers started in January.

I got my 1st egg today! I have BSL and BR that turned 22 weeks on Wednesday. Good luck, you're close.

Thanks all, I've had my nesting boxes in the coop sense I got mine as chick but I have them blocked so they can't get in them yet will more than likely wait till their 20 wks or if I find an egg. Thanks again everyone.

My BR and BSL will be 23 weeks on Wed. I have one that started laying last Friday and one today. I put the nest boxes in on Saturday and both eggs were in the box this morning. Good luck and happy egg hunting soon enough.

I've had four Isa Brown pullets for a week. Got them as mixed age 17 - 22wks old. Two have been laying an egg a day, starting smallish and quite large now after only one week. The Isa Brown company website has good information including their 'product information' sheet which gives expected laying ages. These are for chickens in cages, maybe slightly longer for home birds?
18 wks - 2% will have started to lay
19 wks - 16% will be laying
20 wks - 38% laying
21 wks - 64% laying
22 wks - 84% laying
23 wks - 91% laying
