I recently hatched out some babies and sold a pair to a nice family. The girl is half Buff Orpington/half Welsummer and the boy is pure Welsummer. He texted me today to verify age (8 weeks today) then sent this photo.

Have you ever heard of an 8 week old egg layer!? All of their other layers are separated in a different area and lay light brown, pale blue and mint green -- this is definitely a Welsummer egg. I've only hatched or raised 90 chicks in my day and the very youngest first layer was 14 weeks old.

I had a barred rock many years ago who gave me two tiny eggs when she was 10 weeks old. Then she didn't lay another egg until she was around 21 weeks lol

How fun and exciting! My BRs were my youngest layers too, but at 14 and 15 weeks for two, and 22 weeks for the third. So cute!
