Laying boxes abandoned and full of broken eggs overnight

Obviously your boy is not getting the job done.
Do you candle after 7-10 days to make sure things are developing?

Omg. Actually, no. It didn’t even occur to me. If my rooster isn’t roostering, maybe the hens realized one way or the other (cracked their eggs, or tried to “help them hatch” since they were due and just gave it up?

I doubt it....I find it hard to believe that the hens would have broken up all those eggs, but maybe.

Yes, your rooster doesn't 'have it' but that's not why the eggs are trashed. Maybe the hens, or a smaller critter. Rats will take eggs, and can get into an 1" opening. Look harder at your coop and run, and look for rodent poo.

Far more likely that a predator destroyed the nests. Be on guard - the birds may be next.

Unfortunately, I think you were right. We lost one today.
