Laying Boxes

Our chicks are too young to lay but we put the box in the coop for them to explore and get used to. We have a nice wood box, a good size. At the moment it is on the floor (the coop is roomy enough to accomodate that). The question is, where should the open side be? At the moment, it is on its side so they can walk in. Would it be better to turn it so that the opening is at the top?

No, the opening should be at the front of the box.
