Laying Chickens

I believe they start around 20 weeks. (depends on their food and breed)

Do you have some hens?
How old are they?

We have some hens that will be 17 weeks in Saturday, July 23. We have Rhode Island Reds, Silkies, Bantam Black Laced Gold Wyndottes, Mili Fluer, and Bantam Leg Horns.

This may sound pretty random, but...

All my chickens (white leghorns, BSLs, RSLs, and 2 unknowns) started laying between 14 and 16 weeks. The general consensus I've gotten from personal anecdotes and research says that 14 is uncommon, 16-20 is early, 18-24 is normal, but 24+ happens and isn't anything to be concerned about.

Watch for "the squat" and other egg laying behaviors. When you see it it'll be ~a week.

Thanks. They are all so different and pretty.
