Laying eggs . . . late chicks

My chicks are about 5 weeks now, so they "should" start laying eggs in the middle of winter. Will they just hold off until spring? I am wondering if I should make sure that boxes are up for winter or if I can wait till this spring to add them to the coop.

Hmmmmm, I would get them ready before winter....just in case...however..like you said, they MAY not lay till spring. Better safe than sorry..I would put in the nest boxes.

I would put them up for winter because I've had late summer chicks start laying when it was freezing outside.

Well that is good and bad news. More work now, which I don't need anymore of - getting ready for winter is a pain. But Yippy!!! I could have good eggs coming sooner that I thought
