(laying eggs) [my silkie]

Okay, my silkie is about 5,1/2 months old...and sinse I know that silkies lay well into winter wouldn't a first time layer start in winter to, or will i be expecting egg-laying in spring? Thanks!

Silkies mature later than most other chickens, so they usually start laying at around 6 months old.

Usually first-year pullets lay through winter better than older hens, but they'res no guarantee and I wouldn't be too concerned if she doesn't start until next spring.

Make sure to post the pic of the first egg when it does arrive!

Pretty chicken! She should start laying in a few weeks, if you want her to lay through the winter you'll need a light in the coop. Get a cheap timer and set it to go on at about 4 and off at about 8 or 9. You don't need much light, a 40 watt bulb will do, but they need light to lay.
