Laying eggs outside instead of nest boxes?

My Ameracaunas have started to lay their eggs outside instead of returning to the nest box like my RIR and my BRs do. We have found eggs under the lawn mower, the trampoline and behind bushes. It seems when we find their hiding spot they pick another.

Is there anyway to stop their behavior other than penning them up?

I wouldn't mind except it's like holding an easter egg hunt at our house every evening!

penning them up is the only way to stop them from hiding eggs.sounds like those hens want to go broody on you.

Thank you wynedot55.

They are two years old. The same as my RIRs and BRs. While the RIRs and the BRs have been broody the Ameracaunas have never shown any interest so this is a first for them.

Thank you again!
