Laying feed

I started supplemental oyster shell at 17 weeks. The chickens immediately started eating the oyster shell. I then switched the feed to Purina Layena pellets with with calcium added during week 18. We got our first egg at week 19 and the egg shell was hard. We are now in week 20 and that one particular chicken has laid an egg every day and all the egg shells were hard. I respectfully disagree with waiting until seeing an egg to give layer feed. If you throw down some oyster shell and they start eating it to me that is an indication that they are about to start laying. Just my opinion and it's not meant to ruffle anyone's feathers....no pun intended...lol.
