Hello, BYC! I have a 6-month-old langshan hen who has been going from box to box for the past few days. Two days ago, she finally settled in and was panting. I left her alone; and a little while later, she started singing the egg song but no egg. She stopped panting and went about her business. I read a similar situation with a silkie but sadly it died. I’m terrified now. Should I be concerned? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Sounds pretty normal to me...she'll figure it out.
Don't take one horror story and apply it to your situation.

New layers can be mighty goofy.
Just keep an eye on her, maybe do a butt check off the roost at night.

Have a new layer in the coop, she spent the whole day pacing in and out of nests and all over, the cockerel was even in there keeping an eye on her, jabbering and singing....didn't let that first egg go until very early the next morning, broken on the poop board and mostly eaten by the time I found it. Later that day she laid a perfect egg in a nest, and has done the same for the following 8 days.
