I have 12 20-week-old BO's...one rooster and the rest hens. I just started getting eggs yesterday. The rooster has been especially aggressive toward me for a few days now. Is it normal for a roo to be especially aggressive when his hens are laying, or is this just a coincidence and there's something else going on?

He may be headed to freezer camp if his behavior doesn't change...

He is just protecting his hens hasn't happened to me but I've heard many people reporting behavior like this from their roos when their pullets start laying. Give it a couple weeks and if he doesn't improve, you can take action. I don't like to cull my chickens so that's why I recommended this.
Good luck.

He's maturing just as they are. If his attitude doesn't improve, I'd eat him. Way to many good roosters out there to breed offspring to carry on a bad tempered one's genes.

I had a nasty tempered hatchery silkie that we turned into soup. Offspring from him were nasty as well.

Now I have friendly roosters in my flock and would never tolerate a mean bird again.
