Laying hens

Does a hen have to grow its comb fully before it can lay? I have 10 pullets that are 20 weeks old and there are a couple who are always in the nest boxes. When my big hens started laying they did the same thing. The combs on the young pullets are starting to get bigger everyday but do they have to grow the combs fully before laying begins?

Yes, and they will get bright red, and the legs of some breeds will get real yellow. Then they are mature and then they will lay. It is still so fun to get eggs, even after years of getting them! mk

i have a BO thats comb is really small but getting really red, she is about 6 months old and i hope she starts to lay soon
