Hello!

I have had my chickens since Apr 13th, they were 15 weeks.

They started laying at 16.5 weeks and now all of them are laying everyday. All but 1 are laying in the nests. The one is laying in the opposite corner of the coop on the floor under the perch.

I had put fake eggs in there because 3 were laying on the floor and that worked to get them down to 1...so I just resigned myself to the fact that she was going to lay in the corner.

Well yesterday I installed a poop board under the perch, about 1.5 feet off the ground, so that chicken could still go lay her egg in the corner. Well today I go in and no egg in the corner, just a smashed egg on the poop board which means she is laying while on the perch...

She is still only 18 weeks old, will she eventually lay in the nest? I removed the poop board because before her eggs were surviving the drop.

thanks

It's not uncommon for new layers to drop an egg or two from the roost. Just keep the fake eggs in the nest boxes- sometimes it takes some pullets a while to get the hang of everything. 18 weeks is very young, so she has time to learn.
