I moved my RIRs into their sweet new coop (about a month ago) and they started laying right away - 2 a day and on occasion 3. In the past week tho, one of them has stopped laying. I don't think she is egg bound, everything seems normal with her and I have not made any changes to their diet, etc. They have their laying mash, oyster shell and supplemental treats from me. They get free run of the backyard for a few hours in the afternoons. Lots of sunlight and room to run around.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

thanks!

I have a pretty good guess as to which of the 2 it is. And the funny thing is - was that she was the first of the 2 to start laying. I hope we can figure out whats going on! I have had a few double-yokers in the past few weeks, so maybe she is just saving them up for one huge one??

ccchicken, Sometimes they will lay outside under favorite trees or bushes. I found a cashe of eggs under a Blue Spruce with almost 2 dozen eggs one year. I usually make the hens stay locked up till noon, giving them more time to lay before going out.

Older hens, that know where to lay help to educate younger birds alot.

I was worried they were doing that too - so i have been keeping them in the coop until late in the afternoon, thinking that if they haven't done anyting by then, it probably wasn't going to happen. But I think I will do a close inspection of the backyard in case that's been happening.
