so in my previous post, i wrote about how my drake (indian runner) was killed and now my hen has started laying on her eggs nonstop except to eat and drink.

my question is, when i first found the nest, there were only fifteen eggs. now there is 17 (one of them is broken). is this normal? i dont want to touch any of them. i'd like for them to hatch if any of them are fertile. but i just feel like thats a lot of eggs.

maybe she's trying to keep any fertile ones because she's missing him? im not sure.

Ducks are hard to figure out, and a broody is even more so.

I feel the best you can do is keep her very very safe, and be ready with an incubator and a brooder in case she stops brooding or gets aggressive with ducklings. That is something else we cannot know ahead of time.
