I redesigned my coop after learning so much. Since then my hen has been only laying her eggs on the floor. So the old set up had wood dividers and was open on the top. They would roost on the dividers and poop in the nesting boxes. New set up is a covered shelf with deep plastic bins that i cut the front out. So the sides of the bins act as dividers and the cut out allows entry. She won't lay in the bin. I have put eggs in the bin while on the shelf. I have put the bin on the floor where she is laying with eggs inside. She took the eggs out and then laid another on the floor. I think she hates the plastic bins... any ideas to help??

Chickens are creatures of habit and don't accept new things quickly.

Could it be she doesn't like the cover on the bins?

If you could post pics of the old arrangement and the new ones, you may get better opines.

But consider placing one of those bins without the lid where she is now laying - make sure to use the same type of bedding in the bin. If she would start using it, you could gradually add a top cover and hopefully she'll get used to it and then you could remove it and she might use the new nests?

This is the new sit up. I have 7, but o my one is laying which is why only one box is open.

It doesn't look like there is a way/enough room for her to get into that bin.

The bins at 12 inches deep and 8 inches wide . The younger ( 15 weeks old) ones go in them all the time.

could you remove that 2x4 just above the bins?
Open up that area above the bins more?
